CyanogenMod 9 with Ice Cream Sandwich in January?

Here at Android in Canada, I prefer not to deal to much in to the rooting and roms. I always like to leave that stuff to the real professionals over at XDA

Today I stumbled across some news that was just to delicious to pass over. As many of the experienced rom cookers and followers may know, the Android 4.0 ICS source was released last monday, it was obvious that CyanogenMod would be very quick to put it in to action, as they normally are.

Yesterday, Steve “Cyanogen” Kondik himself let us know that they have started their long hours of coding, and to wait at least 2 months before checking up on CyanogenMod 9. It would be a dream come true to have a stable release of Cyanogen running on many of the supported phones by then, even better if the loyal followers could get an early shot at the Cyanogen Nightlies.

This brings a lot of thoughts to my mind. Wait for the Galaxy Nexus, or wait for Cyanogen and have my LTE + MicroSD support + ICS and all the goodies that come along with Cyanogen.

What do you all think? Rather save the money and have ICS and Cyanogen goodies on your existing phone? Or has the Galaxy Nexus gloriousness got the best of you? Let us know in the comments below.

I’m really struggling with this right now. The way the hardware wars are going right now you can buy the cream of the crop today and within three months it will be bested by the next great release. I’ve spent a good year customizing and tweaking my phone with CM7 and ADW goodness and although the specs of my phone aren’t going to impress anyone, my settings are almost perfect to me.
So I think I’m going to hold off for a while. At the rate things are going, there are going to be some phenomenal phones out next summer and if I can get them at an upgrade price and not an outright purchase, it will mean more money in my pocket.

I hear ya. I just bought the Galaxy S II LTE, now im wondering if I want to grab the new Nexus as well or just sit tight and be happy. You are correct, there is going to be some wicked phones that will kill the Galaxy Nexus within months, well… any phone really.

Just means we have to work those cleaver marketing skills, Buy, Sell, Buy Sell lol

Since most of the “new features” of ICS are already available in Cyanogen 7, I’m very interested to see what the team will cook up for CM9. I’ll stick with my Galaxy S i9000M for now, and see if CM9 makes it run even faster than it does now with CM7.

I’m looking forward to ICS.. but I just hope the Phone App and Contacts App would be just as good as the stock Samsung Galaxy S II one. I really like the swipe to dial/msg and also CyanogenMod really needs to get a predictive dialer!! :) .
