Ice Cream Sandwich updates to 4.0.2

So the phone has barely had any chance to do any big distribution, and is just dropping for Verizon today in the US and it’s already got 2 updates.

I love how Google keeps ensuring that its software is the latest.  Below is a list of the improvements to 4.0.2

Software Version: ICL53F / Android Version 4.0.2

Device features

  • Optimized Mobile Hotspot when used with VPN.
  • Optimized 3G/4G data sessions for faster response times.
  • Fixed an incorrect notification that “data was disconnected due to roaming”.
  • Wi-Fi now automatically reconnects when returning to a known Access Point.
  • Improvements to special visual effects feature when using front-facing camcorder.
  • Visual improvements to the lock screen.

Email & messaging

  • Fixed an issue where some email attachments would not open correctly.

Apps & Widgets

  • DivX support has been removed, and will be supported in a future upgrade.
  • Improved audio volume in Google navigation turn-by-turn directions.

Thanks TalkAndroid

Do you have a Nexus?  I’m waiting for the Rogers version myself.  If you have one, let us know if you’re seeing this update too, or is it just for the US?

There was a OTA system update pushed this am but my settings still show running 4.0.1.  Haven’t seen the G+ update for Hangouts yet either.

G+ update to be out by end of the week they said (canada probably later tho’)
have you gone to settings/about phone/check for update?

I did that, and no update is available OTA. No update for Google+ yet either.

Yeah I went back in and checked about 10 mins ago – no OTA update and no G+ update either.  Not too worried about it, I’m sure updates will come faster to my Nexus than my S! ;)

Oh and anybody on this forum hear anything about when Wallet might make it to Canada?  I’ve read “early 2012″ and I’ve read “spring 2012″ … given the fiasco with Verizon in the US I would hope Google speeds up deliver to us in Canada … I’m not aware of any reason Bell wouldn’t want to play nice with Google Wallet. ;)

For those who have not had the update pushed to them yet. Google offers official recoveries online, you can manually download this and flash them. This method of upgrading will factory reset your phone as well as upgrade it to 4.0.2.

I did it myself last night, but this require you to have a little knowledge of ADB and Fastboot. If you have to ask what these are, this method isn’t for you. If you already know what these are, head on to Google and search for 4.0.2 Factory images. They are found Google’s group page.
