Well here’s some good news if you’re a fan of BBM (maybe the one saving grace of Blackberry). According to US carrier T-Mobile, Blackberry will be releasing it’s messaging app for Android and iOS as early as June 27! Blackberry had initially said that the app would be available this summer and I guess we are into summer now; however, I thought it’d be a little later into summer before this released.
Great news – BlackBerry Messenger will be available to download on iOS and Android from June 27th!
Many of the newer BBM features (such as BBM video) likely won’t be in the initial launch but will likely come in subsequent updates. I’m definitely excited about BBM coming to Android and iOS as I’ve been considering switching off of What’sApp now that they’re trying to take some money from me. Hopefully the app works as good as everyone is expecting it to work!
Blackberry has released an official statement stating that BBM is not coming quite yet:
“On 14 May, BlackBerry announced plans to make its ground-breaking mobile social network, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), available to iOS and Android users this summer, subject to approval by the Apple App Store and Google Play. While there have been reports that BBM will be available to iOS and Android on June 27, this is not accurate…We will communicate an update as soon as we have an availability date to share.”
