Android Netflix Updated to V1.4 Still Working in Canada? (Download link)

Alright guys, here we go again.

The American version of Netflix has updated to V1.4, this time brings support to ALL Android phones 2.2 (Froyo) and 2.3 (Gingerbread). Now we talked about this before, about a month ago. You can find the link to that page ( HERE ).

Since that day, we had a huge list of people posting their results on here and on Google+. I plan to do that again, this time around with V1.4 with its higher compatibility for a wider range of phones. Not saying that it’s going to work for you if it didn’t last time, but you never know.

Over the past month, I have done lots of testing on phones and tablets in my location. My findings have been nothing but success, although I feel slightly guilty, as I know not everyone has had such luck.  To this day, I have successfully got Netflix to work on the following Phones and Tablets:

  • Samsung Nexus S (Stock, No root) Unlocked
  • Samsung Galaxy S II (Stock, Rooted, Cyanogen, MIUI) – Bell, Unlcoked
  • HTC Desire HD (Stock, No root) Telus, Unlcoked
  • HTC Sensation 4G (Stock, No root) Bell, Unlocked
  • HTC Evo 3D (Stock, No root) Rogers
  • Motorola Xoom WiFi (Stock, No root)

All these tests were done using the Rogers network in the Surrey/Vancouver area, tested on both WiFi and 3G using the stock unmodified version of Netflix. Netflix is not yet available in Canada, so you will need to rely on an APK to get it installed, which I will provide a download link at the bottom of this page.

There is no trick to this. No mods, no VPNs, no fake locations, no rooted phones required. Just straight up 100% legit Netflix APK.

I really hope you guys are willing to give it a second try and post your results once again. Hopefully this time around, you guys will have some better luck with its higher compatibility (I’m really hoping for you guys)

1.4 (and the previous 1.3) worked on my Galaxy S Captivate.
Doesn’t work on my eeePad yet tho’ [still says invalid device]

    • SJ

Have you updated your eeePad to the latest firmware.. There was a patch for netflix like 2 weeks ago.
Also use a US dns server  address when running netflix on eePad in Canada. Change your wifi setting for a local static address and input US dns servers in the config. Netflix should start.

yeah, got the update… still doesn’t work.  why would it work on my phone no prob without having to do some trickery-do on my router?

        i can wait

        • Gman

Works great on Motorola Droid 3 (XT860) on Bell.

        • SJ

I meant on your eeePad not the router.. Change the wifi settings to static ip (keep the current one it as) and add  US dns servers in the config.. It’s the same reason why you can’t download the Netflix app from the Market if you are in Canada. You’ll get a msg saying it’s not available in your region.

1.4 (and 1.3) both work on my Galaxy S2 from Bell.

  • Anon

Netflix 1.4 works a treat on my Galaxy S Vibrant from Bell, both with stock gingerbread and stock 2.2.  Netflix 1.3 worked too, but suffered poorer quality on (stock) Gingerbread and miserable quality on 2.1 and 2.2.

  • Hinds2009

It does not work on my Rogers nexus s stock build, i’m in the Ottawa area:(

  • Croptop140_6

No joy on my Telus HTC Desire HD rooted and running CM7. Of course, it has never worked for me so I guess I’m still not missing out.

  • Murray Love

Works on my Telus Nexus S (unlocked, rooted, stock ROM), Victoria area.

  • Gordon McCague

The new version does not work on my Nexus S. Not sure about the Xoom yet. I’ll try it later.

  • Cmfaub

Working onmy Motorola Xoom… Only canadian content :(

  • mIX

I’ve been using 1.3 and 1.4 with no issues at all on my Galaxy Tab.

  • Charmoller

Works without a hitch on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Calgary. Thanks so much for sharing!

  • Steve

Does not work on my HTC desire hd, stock from TELUS, nova Scotia.

I can log in but when I try to play a movie, it says invalid device.

  • None

@Cmfaub If you are in Canada you would only be getting Canadian Content. It’s the same for xbox/ Pc’s or whatever other device you use to connect to NetFlix :)

  • Heather

Both 1.3 and 1.4 worked on my Samsung Galaxy fascinate

I appreciate everyones feedback. Thank you all

Does not work on my Fido Nexus S, can browse and check viewing history (so it’s accessing account info fine) but when I try to watch something it displays the following error

“this device cannot instantly stream from Netflix in your area. Visit ca.netflix.com/NRD to see a full list of devices that instantly stream from Netflix”.

That URL just brings me to the main page of netflix, and doesn’t offer any information.

    Interesting

Working on my Telus Nexus S and Asus Eee Pad, both stock.

I had previously used the VPN trick (connect to VPN, connect to Netflix, disconnect VPN, Netflix still works).  I no longer need to connect to the VPN, Netflix is working.

Whenever I start Netflix, it tells me that there is an update available.  If I try to update, I either get page not found, or it tells me ‘This item not available in your country’.  If I bring up Netflix in the market, it tells me neither of my devices is compatible.

    However, it is working…

    Not working for me.

    Nexus s 2.3.6
    Rooted stock
    Telus, in BC.

I get a I need to update my device message. Which different than the not supports in my area I got with Netflix version 1.3.
